Well it’s my favourite
time of year when the
leaves turn to rich
rusts, the trees are
awash with beautiful
berries and we’re all getting ready to snuggle up for autumn.
Autumn is one of the key times of the year we all start looking at improving our homes, making our nest more comfortable, warm and cosy to spend the colder part of the year in.
What better way to make your home cosier and warmer this autumn than treating it with a new carpet. With so many fantastic colours, patterns and textures on offer, there’s something to suit everyone, whatever you style or budget.
We’re all a little scared when it comes to splashing colour around our homes and that’s why natural shades
are a classic. Think of the neutral carpet as the little black dress, everyone has one (if not two, three
of four…), it’s a timeless-classic. If you’re on a budget and searching for an autumnal bargain, add warmth
and depth to a room by choosing mushroom, stone and mocha colours. Or, if you’re looking to give an
illusion of space – chose a lighter shade neutral, latte, beach sand or toast. However, as with all
trends (remember the phrase ‘grey is the new black?’), trends move on. And, we’re seeing duck egg blues
and soft greens slowly creeping up the best-selling list.
I simply adore this
Bajong Montana Saxony Red carpet, which is a bold statement, and not for the
faint-hearted but simply gorgeous. And just as black hits the catwalk again ready for autum/winter,
it’s hitting the interior world too and we’ve seen a surge for black carpets.
My personal and biggest trend for this season is pattern and in particular stripes. Think old-school deck
chairs on Brighton beach when the British seaside rocked!
If you have a little cash to splash, there’s a definite interior trend for natural floorcovering – sisal,
coir and seagrass. I’m totally in love with this sisal (Tigers Eye, Amber) it’s so chunky and homely it
makes me dream of log fires, mulled wine and candlelit suppers. But, don’t be fooled by this scene of pure
comfort, a natural floorcovering can also create a stylish and contemporary look.
These beach-loving stripes are now huge in carpets and I have fallen in love with Kersaint Cobb, Beach Hut Bournemouth. Striped carpet can create a bold, chic and impactful area and looks simply amazing on stairs leading your eye up the stairs.
If stripes are a little too bold for your subtle surroundings but you want to flirt with pattern, go for
leafs, swirls, florals and small motifs.
This Palma Wheat, is a neutral, best-selling colour,
but adds interest with a square, embossed, same-colour pattern.
There are no fixed rules on choosing carpets. It’s a purchase you make with your heart, like me, you’ll fall in love with some seaside stripes or pillar-box red threads and all domesticated questions fly out of the window. Carpet has developed so much over the last decade that the choice can be bewildering and hopefully, that’s where yourfloors.co.uk can help.
