Well, here we are at the start of a brand new year!
2008 was a fabulous
year for flooring trends,
but 2009 looks set to be even better with bolder patterns and
brighter colours making a comeback as consumers opt for more vivid shades to liven up their homes.
Of course, the classic beige carpet will still have a place in the home, but I, for one, am really excited at
the prospect of more daring designs and fantastic flooring options. Read on to find out more about what’s hot
and what’s not for 2009!
So, what will the best dressed floors be wearing in 2009? With so many options available, from luxurious
carpets and sumptuous rugs to striking laminates and glorious wood, there is a flooring trend to suit every
home and budget. There’s never been a better time to spruce up your home – starting with the floor and working
your way up!
Let’s face it, when it comes to choosing a carpet or rug, even if we
want to try something a little bit different, more often than not we
will opt for the safe neutral colours. So why not listen to that voice
in your head this time urging you to be bold and go for a pattern?
There is plenty of choice from subtle leaves, for those of you that
are still a little timid, to striking stripes for those who are brave
enough to really go for it. The key for this season is to keep the
colour palette to muted shades of pink and brown.
I love this 100% wool hand loomed rug. It looks fab in a living
room and is perfect for anyone who isn’t quite ready to go the
whole hog and carpet the entire room in stripes.
2009 is all about colours. Bright reds and corals are hot this season and look fab in bedrooms, but are not
for the faint hearted. Tamer colour trends include blues, smokey greys, pinks and, my personal favourite,
purples. Lilacs, aubergines and mauves will be huge for Spring and give an impression of light and space,
so perfect for smaller homes or rooms that don’t catch the sun.
A key trend for 2009 is vinyl and there are some fab colours and designs out there at the moment. All tastes
are catered for with bright modern mosaics, monochrome graffiti-style swirls and neutral stone effect tiles
all hot looks for this season.
I simply adore this bright green and yellow vinyl which looks amazing in a kitchen and makes a real statement as you enter the room.
Whether you choose carpet, wood, laminate or vinyl, deep brown flooring creates a dramatic look and makes an
instant impact as you enter the room. Laminates are an ideal choice, but if you feel this will look a little
stark, then why not add some texture with a rug? Team this with pale walls to achieve a stunning contemporary
look that will look amazing in any home.
Neutral shades are an all time classic that are always in vogue. This year’s must haves are carpets in stone, mocha and cappuccino, as well as laminate flooring in soft whites and greys. My top tip is to layer two neutral shades to add depth to the room. Try teaming a coffee coloured carpet with a slightly darker rug or vice versa. This looks stunning in any style of house.
